Beauty Reviews, Tips, and Tricks on a Budget!

Review: Sunsilk Waves of Envy

Name: Sun Silk Waves of Envy Shampoo & Conditioner

Product: 5/5

Price: $4-5 each

Available: Anywhere

I have to say, this is one of the BEST combos for hair that I have EVER tried! For the longest time I had been looking for a shampoo and conditioner that worked with my hair, which was hard because my hair is extremely picky. I had been using the Sally Beauty knock off of Biolage, which was good, but I was getting board with it. So I wanted to change up.

I decided to try Sunsilk Waves of Envy because my local Walgreens had it on sale B1G1Free and I had $1.50 off coupons for Sunsilk, so I was able to get the shampoo and conditioner for about $3. And that $3 was some of the best money I ever spent on my hair. This combo, made my hair SUPER SOFT. I could tell in the shower as I was rinsing it out that my hair was noticeably softer, and when it dried, my hair was smooth as silk! This change in my hair took me by surprise, because my hair is chemically damaged from continuously highlighting my normal brown hair blonde. So the ends of my hair were quite brittle and rough. After one time with the shampoo and conditioner I was amazed and this has become an HG for me. Plus, this combo has a gorgeous smell to it, it’s a floral scent, but there are notes of other scents as well. I can’t put my finger on the other scents though.

Final Thoughts: I think that anyone who is looking for a great shampoo and conditioner combo needs to check out the entire SunSilk line before moving on to more expensive drugstore and salon brands. I understand that not everyone will have the same experience that I did with these products, but for the price and the quality, I think this is a risk well worth taking. I took it and I am so happy that I did.

How to Develop A HUGE Stash on a Small Budget

I am by no means a wealthy girl, in fact I work at a small hotel earning $7.00 an hour doing front desk work. However this does not stop me from having one HUGE stash of makeup and nailpolish! Friends of mine who have been privileged with the chance of seeing my collection up close and personal have walked away shaking their heads in awe at the size of my stash.

I do plan on taking pictures of everything, but I’m still in the process of organizing it, which is taking FOR-EV-AR for me to do. But one of these days I WILL have a collection with pics posted for you!! However, my collection itself is not the purpose of this post, it is how to build a collection like mine in a short amount of time.

I know it sounds odd, that I am writing a post on this topic, because every woman and girl knows how to buy makeup. But over the past year, I have been able to gather many tips and tricks along the way on how to get good quality makeup for a damn good price.

  • My first rule of advice is to be open to trying new brands. You will not very far with my help if you are a label snob. If you use MAC only, then there is nothing that I can do for you. I feel that MAC is extremely overrated and that you can find similar quality in other brands.
  • Don’t be afraid of shopping at drugstores / big box stores. MANY, many of my finds come from CVS, Walgreens, K-Mart and occasionally Target. I do not have an Ulta near my house, YET!
  • Coupons!!!! I am one of those people who tries to buy a Sunday paper every week in order to go through the coupon section for makeup deals. Sometimes this can be a gamble because one week you will get one two or three really good coupons for Max Factor, Cover Girl, Revlon or L’Oreal and other times nothing. If you come across a really good coupon that you know you will use, such as a B1G1 Free deal, head on to e-bay to see if you can score more of those coupons. I was recently turned on to buying coupons on ebay when I discovered you could get many coupons for a couple of dollars, which is a good investment, if you know you are going to use the majority of them.
  • KNOW which products each brand does best and which ones are the worst. By knowing this, you can work B1G1 Free deals quite easily, and get the best products for the lowest amount of money. You would not want to waste a deal on chalky no pigmented eyeshadows when you could have spent that money on really good lippies. I’ve personally learned this over the past year. I’ve certainly come home with some stinkers. A lot of it is trial and error, but with the help of the many beauty blogs and websites available, you will be able to navigate the beauty aisle better.
  • Mineral Makeup!!! Hands down, MMU is one of the BEST discoveries I have made in the beauty universe. I’ve always been a fan of loose eyeshadows, (I have over 20 MAC full sized piggies) and through the independent mineral makeup companies on the internet, I have been able to buy a ton of eyeshadows through several companies for very little cost. Everytime I come across an interesting makeup company, I always sign up for their newsletter and I then wait for them to have a sale. Then I take advantage of starter kits and sample kits, where you can usually get a lot for very little. One of the best things about mineral eyeshadows and blushes is that they are typically very pigmented and a little can last a very long time.

I hope these few tips help you with developing your own quality stash for a reasonable price. I know that my tips and tricks won’t help everyone, but I hope at least some of you can benefit. I plan on expanding on my tips in future posts, so be on the lookout for that!!

Small MAC Haul and Twilight!!

I hit the mall today to pick up some MAC and to stalk Hot Topic because the first of the Twilight merch was being released. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad I was there, because people were actually lining up to get the shirts!! The box of shirts was open on the floor and people were actually digging through the box for Twilight!! I ended up buying the XXL shirt – not because I am hugely fat, but because the clothing at Hot Topic is sized to fit girls who have no rib cages. So I got my XXL and it looks like a medium sized WOMENS T-shirt.

Go Figure. I still loves it soooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By The Way, this is NOT me. I took this picture off of the Hot Topic website :)

On the back of the shirt it says “When You Live Forever, What Do You Live For?” Can we say “sigh”?

Anyway I also hit up the MAC counter and chatted with the MUA Cathy, who is the sweetest person EVER!! I talked to her for like 45 minutes while it rained like crazy outside. From her I picked up some more MAC Brush Cleaner, which is love, and some Fix +. I’ve never used this stuff before, so it was somewhat an impulse buy, so I’m not sure if I am going to keep it or not. So I’ll give it a try and see how it works!!

I personally think that the MAC brush cleaner is one of THE BEST purchases you can make for your brushes. The stuff is super cheap, especially if you use it the way I do…. which is something for a future post. :)

So that is all for now, I’ll talk to you lovelies tomorrow :)

Wish List: Xhilaration® Hearts Tote

I was in Target yesterday and I fell in love with this little tote the second I saw this little baby. On top of being a makeup whore, I am also a handbag ho’ and this bag was speaking to me in ways I never thought possible.

However, I didn’t purchase it even though it was only $16.99, and I had the money. Why didn’t I purchase this little lovely? Because I only wanted to purchase ONE purse and I already had previous plans to purchase a larger tote, which was to replace my day to day tote bag, which is falling apart. So I passed up this little baby and went with my first decision to get the bigger tote.

But as luck would have it, I ended up returning the bigger tote that I purchased yesterday today, because the outside pocket wasn’t big enough to hold my ever present bottle of water. So back to Target it went. After I returned my tote I searched through the purse section, but I couldn’t find this bag. Fortunately, this isn’t my normal Target, so I wasn’t upset about finding this bag.

I’ll actually be going back up to my normal Target on Friday, because I’m going to the Breaking Dawn Midnight release party at my local Books A Million, where I have already pre-bought the book!! So while I’m getting Breaking Dawn, I’ll also pick up one of these cute purses :)

Besides this gives me the chance to see the cashier I’m crushing on….LOL…. However, the guy is like FIVE years younger than me….

Target: Xhilaration Hearts Tote

Till next time :)

Excitement!!

This post is somewhat related to beauty, but somewhat not as well. But I’m pretty blasted excited anyway!! The upscale shopping center in Jacksonville, The St. John’s Town Center is getting our very first……

ULTA COSMETICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can ya tell I’m a wee bit excited?? This will be the FIRST Ulta I’ve EVER been too, and the second one in the somewhat slow city of J-Ville Florida. Ulta is poised to open at the Center in the Fall, hopefully in September or October, which means there will be an Ulta, MAC, and Sephora all in a 1/2 mile of each other. Thank goodness I have a full time job!!

While I’m hitting up all these lovely, lovely stores, I will be able to sit down and eat lunch at my all time favorite Mexican restaurant Chipotle!! I fell in love with Chipotle when I was still in school at UF down in Gainesville FL, and I was deeply saddened to leave it when I graduated. So I’m stoked beyond belief to have one coming to my town. My favorite dish from them are the chicken tacos- those things are crazy good!!

So as you can see. I’m super excited right now and wanted to share my happiness with all of you!!

Review: Aubrey Nicole Foundation

Name: Light-Medium Full Coverage Foundation

Product: 5/5

Price: 26.95 for a 3 OZ Jar

Available: Aubrey Nicole

I love this foundation. If I didn’t love it, I wouldn’t have bought the full sized jar, and since I bought the super sized jar, that should tell you SOMETHING! I am very much a commitment phobic person when it comes to foundation, which is one of the reasons I’ve fallen in love with mmu, it gives me the chance to try tons of foundations without making a serious commitment to just one.

However, after falling in love with the Aubrey Nicole sample I ordered a while ago, I knew I MUST order a full sized jar. Fortunately for me, Aubrey Nicole decided to have a huge sale throughout the month of July, giving 20% off everything in the store so I managed to pick up my foundie for about $21, which is not bad at all, considering how many years this thing will last me, NO JOKE!

Ok, on to the review; Aubrey Nicole offers two types of foundations, soft coverage and full coverage. The soft coverage seemed too light for me, so I went with the full coverage instead. I feel that with the full coverage, I have better control over how much coverage I actually get. The foundation applies very nicely for me, and the foundation color is a perfect match for my skin color. The powder seems to melt into my skin, so you can’t tell that I am wearing foundation.

The coverage I tend to aim for is light/ medium which means I only do a layer or two of the full coverage for it to look good. With my Monistat primer, this foundation practically lasts all day for me, which a great thing, considering I live in Florida and it’s SUMMER! The humidity here has been a b**ch. LOL. So I am thrilled about how long this foundie lasts in this blasted heat.

Final Thoughts: I don’t have many requirements for foundation, as long as it doesn’t break me out, matches my skin and stays put for most of the day, I’m a happy girl. For me, this foundation does everything I need it to and I’m satisfied with what I have now.

Will I ever try more foundies? Most likely.

Will I ever buy another full jar of a different foundie? Probably.

But for now, I’m completely happy with my Aubrey Nicole Foundation.

** I’ll post pictures tomorrow night!!**
