The Sneaky Way to Get Discounted Makeup
Well… not really. LOL. As you all know by now, I am a lover of discounts especially when it comes to makeup and other items.
During my search for the perfect discount, I have come across a few ways to get really good discounts on popular makeup brands. Some I already have – and others I hope to get sometime in the near future. All of these brands are quite popular with both the beauty junkies and people who live in the real world. So far there have been a few different ways to get discounts, and this guide will help you get them.
Becoming a brand Representative. This allows you to sell the brand to other people. Becoming a Rep allows you to purchase products at a substantial discount.
NYX Cosmetics – You guys HAD to know that this one was going to be on the top of the list. Well, if you sign up with NYX under the “B” Option, then you will get a huge kit with full sized samples. The kit now costs $100, but the kit that you receive is worth over $600 and you get a permanent 50% discount on all NYX products. That makes it a great steal. You can get more information on this program by searching through my NYX posts.
Mark. Cosmetics – Mark. is the baby sister of Avon. A couple of years ago I was talked into signing up with Avon to be a Rep. Lets just say that AVON is not all what it’s cracked up to be, and that being a Rep basically sucks unless you live and breathe Avon. However, this isn’t about AVON and signing up with them as a Rep. This is about signing up to be a MARK. Rep. It can cost either $10 or $20 to sign up with the brand. Mark. Reps get a permanent discount of 40% off cosmetics and skincare and 25% off jewelery and clothes. This is great, because Mark. produces some really great products and it would be very easy to recoup your $10 or $20 investment. I personally plan on signing up to be a Mark. Rep within the next couple of weeks, so that is something I am looking forward to. If you want more information on becoming a Mark. Rep, click here.
Getting a PRO discount. This one is a little bit harder than just signing up as Rep for brand. You have to have some sort of proof that you are a “Professional” Makeup Artist. This doesn’t always mean that you have to have a license, but proof that you have done some sort of makeup application at a wedding or for a play… you get the idea. Some PRO discounts are easier to get than others….
Nixie Cosmetics – Nixie is an up and coming makeup brand that is being heralded as the second coming of MAC. If you don’t believe me – checkout some Nixie tutorials on Youtube. Anyway – Nixie is offering a PRO discount of 40% off all products to anyone who has proof of being a makeup artist. One of the proofs that you can use is having a business card. The discount costs $15 and you can get more information about it here.
MAC Cosmetics – MAC has their own PRO discounts that offer a range of discounts from 20% to 40%. The 20% discount is for makeup students and the 40% is for the professional makeup artists. To get more information on their PRO programs, click here.
VIP or Brand Loyalty Programs. Some sights and companies offer discounts to customers who join a yearly program for a price and then that person gets a preset discount for the entire year. The price and discount differs for each company.
Spell Cosmetics. This is a relatively new mineral makeup company that has a lot of beauty junkies going crazy over. They offer a yearly program called Spell Girl VIP Membership and for $12 a year, you can get free shipping on any sized order and 25% off everything in the store. You also get a freebie with your membership which is either a shirt or a mineral eyeshadow. I personally plan on getting this membership soon! I am looking forward to trying this brand out. You can sign up for this program here.
Whole Sale Companies. Believe it or not, it is possible for regular customers to order from certain whole sale companies, however, the sites that I am going to mention require a minimum purchase amount. However, the sites are completely worth the min. purchase and I highly suggest ordering from these sites.
TKB Trading – This is a popular secret among the beauty bloggers and rightly so. This is a whole sale site that sells mineral makeup pigments and micas for a dirt cheap price. You can purchase TABLESPOON sized samples from this site for $1.50. For those of you who are not quite sure how much product this actually is, a tablespoon could easily fill a 20 GRAM jar with left over product. TKB Trading also sells empty sifter jars in 5, 10, 20 and 30 grams for a low price. There is a $20 min purchase and a $2 flat shipping rate. You can check out the site here.
Auraline Beauty – This is the newest site I’ve come across. This site is a whole sale site, that is believed to be one of the whole sale sites that supplies Coastal Scents with their AMAZINGLY popular palettes. They also sell cheap empty palettes that fit MAC sized eyeshadows. These palettes run about $7 and you can get a 15 slot palette and a 28 slot palette. The slots in the palette are slightly bigger than the MAC eyeshadows. However adding magnets to the bottom of the palette and the eyeshaows fix this problem. This site also sells makeup brushes, and while I have personally never played with them, I’ve heard good things about the quality, and most of the brushes are between $4 and $15, which makes them quite the steal. This site requires a $50 min purchase, so this may not be a normal spot to shop, but there is a $3 flat rate shipping fee, which makes it quite a nice place to shop, especially for the Coastal Scents palettes. You can check out this site here.
Happy discount shopping!
Rant: Unoriginal Beauty Blogs
**Note** This is going to be long, and it’s probably going to piss off a lot of people. Get over it. This will also have bad language in it. I’m 23, and I am allowed to swear, if you don’t like it, don’t read it.
I used to be really into reading beauty blogs – seriously when I started this blog, I could sit and read blog after blog for hours on end without becoming bored. In my google reader right now, I have about 150 feeds from different beauty blogs. So I think I’m pretty well connected to what’s going on in the beauty world. I loved reading these blogs all day long.
Now – not so much.
It seems like now the vast majority of the blogs I read have posts on one of three things, content from Total Beauty, MAC Collections and celeb makeup and style. This is all well and good and pretty interesting the first and even second time it pops up into my google reader. However these posts get really old when I see them 50 or 60 times in the same day.
I mean, what the hell? What happened to writing your own damn content and posting it? I understand reviewing the same product a lot of other bloggers have reviewed, because it’s fascinating to read the different thoughts on the same product. These don’t annoy me because even though it’s the same product, the reviews are actual ORIGINAL CONTENT that someone had to sit down and write. This isn’t some copy and paste crap that comes in an email.
Before you chastise me for bashing something I’ve done as well, understand that everything I’ve copied and pasted from my emails onto this blog have had some importance to me. When I post about a sale, it’s for a brand that or site that I love, and I want to share that with you. I don’t do it just to up my blog post, which is something that I think a lot of bloggers are obsessed with. I know this, because I used to be one of those bloggers as well. I used to be all about posting about new MAC collections, because they were easy and it brought MAC searchers to my site. Which then upped my traffic count, watching your hits go from one number to another much higher number is quite addictive. I saw my numbers jump 50 or 60 people in one days time when I posted about MAC Collections. Especially the ones that are very highly anticipated.
Hello Kitty anyone?
I cannot begin to tell you how many damn posts I have seen about this stupid collection. Yes, I said stupid. I am officially sick of Hello Kitty now, and it hasn’t even come out yet. And the sad thing is, is that I was actually looking forward to seeing this collection in person and possibly getting a couple things from it. Now the collection can go to hell. Beauty bloggers and their excessive posting on it has completely ruined the excitement for me. It seems that everyone and their dead ancestors are going ape shit over this collection. I gaurentee that almost everyone who wants something from this collection already has a color in their collection that matches the one from MAC perfectly when on the skin. But they are still going to drop loads of cash on it because its MAC and it has different packaging.
That makes it all worth while doesn’t it?
While I am on the subject of over obsessive posting, why does everyone feel that it’s their duty to post what Angelina Jolie wore on her face during the SAG Awards? The first time I read it, it was interesting but then EVERYONE started posting the same damn article. Basically copy and pasted it from one source (probably another blog) and posted it onto their blog. Because I’ve read the same article with the same wording too many times to count now. Honestly, I couldn’t care less that Anne Hathaway wore a Lancome lipgloss to some awards show. I am never going to buy that gloss, so why do I need to see it 100 times in two days?
It becomes overkill very easily and very quickly. That’s why you will NEVER see me post anything about awards shows here.
Another thing that rubs me the wrong way is all the Total Beauty content that gets posted on every damn blog. I am guilty of posting Total Beauty content on occasion when something interests me to the point I want to share it with all of you. If you have been reading my blog for a long period of time, then you will know that I haven’t posted T.B content in a very long time, not including the Weekly Web Tour. I do believe that T.B. is very important and progressive for the Beauty Blogging Universe and that it has done a lot to bring together beauty bloggers from across the board and unite them under one network. This opens up small blogs like mine to a wider audience then ever before. And unlike other beauty blog networks, which is by invitation only, and is very exclusive, T.B. welcomes everyone who has been a beauty related blogger for 3 months or more. This is why I post the Weekly Web Tour almost every week, to show my support for the blogs that have submitted their work for the week.
Anyway, to get back on track of what I was saying, (you guys know I can go off on tangents. LOL!) many bloggers post the Total Beauty Content on their sites daily, just to show that they have posted SOMETHING. I know from experience that these little blurbs are just to boost Total Beauty’s overall visitor count, as well as other things that I am not going to mention here. I personally don’t care if someone posts one of these things a couple of times a week. I understand what it’s like to have a full time job and other responsibilities in the real world that are more important than a beauty blog. So to post a couple of these blurbs to help keep your blog active during this time is understandable. I’ve posted little things like this, just to keep this blog active. HOWEVER I do not agree with the bloggers who used to post original content that took some thought on a regular basis, who now just mainly post these little blurbs everyday with maybe one or two original pieces a week, if we’re lucky.
What’s the point of a blog if you are not going to post anything original in it? I know that once upon a time, most bloggers started their blogs with the same intentions. They wanted to share their unique love of cosmetics and all things beauty with other like minded people, and with people who are just discovering their passion for it. That’s why I started my blog, and that’s why I still have my blog. Not for the free stuff I sometimes get, even though that is a pleasant perk of the job. It’s NOT the reason why I began it, or why I continue to post in it. I do it for the love of talking about products and brands that I adore and sharing that adoration with others who share the same adoration or with people who have never used the product or brand before. I know that I don’t post daily in this, but I prefer it that way. I would rather only post 3 or 4 times a week with original content, then cram someone’s feed reader with mindless, copy and pasted shit that everyone else seems to post as well.
So for those of you who have read this and are angry with me for saying this, do both of us a favor. Leave my blog and don’t come back. There are PLENTY of blogs out there that will cater to your need for MAC Collections and celeb beauty. For those of you who agree with me, we need more people to breathe new life in the beauty blog universe. I cannot be the only person to see how repetitive and uncreative these blogs have become. Only a few stick out to me now a days with their originality and their effort, when in the past, everyone used to be like that. I hope one day more people will step out of the box and see that there is more to the beauty world other than MAC and celebrities. Until then I will continue to visit the few blogs that I truly enjoy.
Wishlist: Jan 09
Even though I have been hauling like crazy these past couple of weeks, I still have a pretty full wishlist that I hope to get through soon. Most of the stuff on my list is not easily available – so I have to purchase most of it from the internet. Which is no problem – I just need to stay out of the stores. Haha.
Eco Tools – New 5 Piece set. This set is different than the one most people know of, with the blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, concealer and eyebrow comb brushes. This one has four brushes with white and black bristles and are specially made for mineral makeup. I have been lemming this for the longest time, and I have finally found it in my local Walgreens, so I can’t wait to get them!!
La Femme Products- I have been wanting La Femme products for the longest time now. The only place I can get them for reasonable price and shipping is makeup mania. So the next time I get an extra $40 or so, you know I’ll be spending it at makeup mania getting some eyeshadows and blushes.
Coastal Scents Palettes- Which makeup junkie doesn’t want these palettes? I have been craving all of the palettes, doubly so since I got to experience the neutral one for myself. Definitely an eyeshadow junkie’s dream.
Coastal Scents E-Z Press- I have a lot of mineral eyeshadows that I have been wanting to press, and this is just the product to do it. However I just haven’t gotten around to purchasing it yet. I will in a couple of weeks though – hopefully.
TKB Trading- I have been dying to get some pigments from TKB Trading since I first heard of this site. They also conveniently have little tin pans that I can use to press mineral eyeshadows into it. Which will work wonderfully when I get my E-Z Press from Coastal Scents.
I’ll will definitely be getting a lot of these products over the next month or so, so keep a look out for that!

Walgreens Haul and Ramblings
I have decided to take advantage of my gym’s fitness classes. So for the past week or so since starting them, I’ve basically been in lots of pain. LOL. But the classes have been tons of fun. I’ve trying a variety of them, yesterday morning I did an ass-kicking body sculpting class that is becoming more addictive every time I’ve done it. I also took a yoga class last night, and I couldn’t believe how flexible I was. I just lost my balance a couple of times, but I managed to do almost all of the poses with only a medium amount of trouble.
However, my legs are pretty damn sore right now. LOL. So onto my Walgreens Haul. I actually scored all this loot for about $20. So YAY me!

Review: Maybelline Mineral Power Liquid Foundation

I have been using this foundation for a few months now, and I am almost through with my first bottle. I started wearing this foundation because I wanted a liquid foundation that didn’t break my skin out, but I didn’t want to spend top dollar on something from Sephora or the MAC counter. So when CVS had a too good to pass up promotion on this foundation – I jumped on the chance to try it out. I lucked out on my color choice – 4 Nude was the first color I purchased, and fortunately it matched my skin perfectly. I have light-medium neutral skin, which is around 25 NC in MAC.
This liquid foundation is everything I could want right now in a foundie. It applies evenly over my skin, I dab it on with my Sonia Kashuk skunk brush (187 dupe) and I apply a light layer that gives me light coverage. The foundation can be built up to medium coverage with no caking. I always use my Monistat Anti Chafing Gel as my primer before using this product. So I never have to deal with break outs from this product. I highly recommend that you check this product out the next time you are looking for a decent and cheap liquid foundation. I’m sure you can mix this foundation in with your moisturizer for a great tinted moisturizer. The other good thing about this foundation is that it comes with 18 SPF. Which is always a good thing.
Product: 5/5
Price: $8.99-$9.99

Everyday Products Jan 2009
When I go to do my makeup, there are a few products that I use everytime. I wouldn’t call these products my Holy Grails, but they are the ones I trust to do their jobs
. Some of these products I have written reviews on, and some of these are still waiting in the wings.
All of these products go in a little bucket on my desk, which makes it easy for me to get to them every morning, allowing me more time to spend on my eyes. These products include my primer, foundie, setting powder, fave blush and more. I love having all of these products close at hand. It makes it easy to do everything.
- Monistat Anti-Chafing Gel: This is my primer of choice. I always start with this product first, placing a light layer over my skin, sans eyes to prep my skin for my foundie. I don’t put this on my eyes, because I have a separate primer for that.
Urban Decay Primer Potion: After I apply my Monistat primer, I always use this stuff on my eyes. It is absolutely wonderful, and I don’t know how I even lived without it. I allow this stuff to dry after I apply it, because if I don’t my eyeshadow will look like hell at the end of the day.
NYX Concealer in a Jar: This is my fave concealer right now. It is extremely creamy and applies like a dream under my eyes and over blemishes on my face and neck. The color “Light” is just slightly lighter than my skin tone, which brightens up my face a little bit. I apply this after my primer and before my foundation. This goes well under both my liquid foundation and my powder one.
Maybeline Mineral Power Liquid Foundation: This has quickly become one of my favorite foundies. I use to use powder mineral foundie in the summer, but I changed up and got a liquid for the winter. The color matches my skin perfectly and the coverage is light and buildable.
Aromaleigh Ultra – Resolution Finishing Powder: I use this powder to set my makeup everyday. This is a dupe of the MUFE HD Powder, only this one was cheaper. LOL. This works very well over my Maybeline foundation to keep it from shining all day. I apply this stuff either by my Sonia Kashuk skunk brush (MAC 187 dupe) or my big and fluffy Ecotools powder brush. You need just a light layer to set your makeup. Too much of this product and it will wash out your makeup.
Milani Luminous Blush (Old Version) I use this blush all the time. It’s the perfect pinky gold that makes my light medium neutral skin glow with life. The version I have is the old version, before Milani reformulated their blushes to be “mineral blushes.” I have yet to try the new Luminous blush, so I can’t say if it is as nice as the original one.
HIP Creme Liner in Black: This is my go to eyeliner for everyday. I have become hooked on using this product daily. This dries quickly after applying it and it lasts all day without fading or flaking off. It’s drier than the MAC fluidlines, but that doesn’t bother me at all. I have this creme liner in all of the colors, but I always go back to the black.
So these are my daily products, that I just can’t live without right now. This can change as I purchase new items to add into my collection. I hope you guys enjoyed this!
Review: China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat

I started using this base coat when my ORLY Bonder stopped working for me. I found out the hard way that it goes bad extremely fast. I had to throw a bottle out with a lot of product left in it. So I went to Sally Beauty Supply on the search for a new base coat. I had used China Glaze polishes in the past with great results so I decided to give their base coat a try.
I have been using this base coat now for several months, and just purchased my second bottle of this stuff. I absolutely love this product. My nails hate nail polish so anytime I get a base coat that helps keep my polish on for about 5 days with very little wear and tear it gets a huge thumbs up from me. This stuff works better than ORLY Bonder ever did. I have used Strong Adhesion Base Coat with China Glaze, OPI, Chanel, MAC, NYC Color, Wet N Wild, Sinful Colors and more, and all of the brands have lasted pretty well on my nails. After about 5 days, I get sick of a color and change up my polish. I highly recommend this base coat for anyone who has had problems with nail polish staying on the nails. Because I have a Sally Card, I get this base coat for $3.25, which is a nice change from the $5-6 for the ORLY Bonder.
