I couldn’t find a picture of this cleaner online, and I didn’t want to waste my time taking a picture of it myself. This product comes in a clear bottle with a spray cap. It says Essence of Beauty Brush Cleaner on it, in black font. I have been torn between posting a review on this product or just forgetting about it. I decided to write a review on this because I did not want another beauty junkie purchasing this.
OK, on to the review:
I DESPISE this product. Plain and Simple. This cleaner contains alcohol as one of it’s first ingredients, which is a MAJOR NO NO to when it comes to brush cleaners. Alcohol is an extremely drying product that can literally ruin someone’s makeup brushes. When it came to this “brush cleaner’s” ability to clean my brushes, it took several sprays of cleaner to clean an eyeshadow brush, and even then barely any product came off. I used this cleaner on brushes that I had not used with cream products or foiled pigments.
So basically it took many sprays of product to clean one eyeshadow brush with dry powder on it. The brush wasn’t even all that clean after me trying to clean it. The brush felt very dry and brittle after I cleaned it, thanks to the alcohol.
Final Thoughts: This products just blew chunks when it came to doing what a brush cleaner was supposed to do. The only good thing about this product, hence the .5 rating is the bottle, because I used it for my MAC brush cleaner solution. The bottle is perfectly sized to mix a little brush solution at a time, without making too much. So if you find yourself with a bottle of this stuff, dump it out immediately and get yourself some decent cleaner. Your brushes will thank you!
How I Clean By Brushes
I clean my brushes in two different ways. The first way I clean my brushes is with my MAC brush cleaner, and the other way is with a mixture of different cleaners.
For the light cleanings, which I do during and after my makeup, I use my MAC brush cleaner (which is LOVE!!!). I actually use an old spray bottle that used to hold my Essence of Beauty brush cleaner, and I fill it with a mixture of brush cleaner and water. The spray bottle holds 2.7 fl oz, and I fill it with MAC cleaner about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way full. I then add water to it, filling the rest of the bottle up, which turns the dark pink color of the cleaner into a light pink color.
This cleaner mixture makes the PERFECT quick brush washing. When I am using a certain brush for eyeshadow I can clean a brush with this cleaner and continue using it a few minutes later. The cleaner takes only a few minutes to dry, so the brush is ready to go. When I go to clean the brushes I spray a wash rag or a paper towel a few times and then I wipe the brush across the solution several times. The brush comes out looking practically white. This works to keep my brushes going through my makeup play.
The second way I clean my brushes is with a deep cleaning and conditioning treatment. I actually found this way from one of my favorite beauty blogs, IlurveMakeup. She has one of the most innovative ways of deep cleaning brushes. Ever since I saw this video, my brushes look as close to brand new as they are going to get.
The solution that is used in the video includes, baby shampoo, antibacterial dish soap, and regular shampoo and conditioner. This is an amazing mixture and it works AMAZINGLY well. I highly recommend that EVERYONE washes their brushes in this way.
