Review: Wet N Wild Ultimate Minerals Loose Blush in Rose Shimmer

Name: Rose Shimmer
Product: 5/5
Price: $3.99
Available: Whereever Wet N Wild is sold.
I am a huge fan of Wet N Wild. I love almost everything I get from the brand, and given that almost everything is $5 or less, it makes for an awesome choice for beauty junkies on a budget. Wet N Wild recently brought out a new collection of mineral blushes and bronzers, and I of course snapped up a few items to try out. This is one of the blushes.
I picked up both this blush, Rose Shimmer and Barely Peach. Rose Shimmer is a medium warm pink with sheen and a slight gold shimmer. It applies easily enough and blends into the skin without a lot of work, leaving a gorgeous natural glow. In the land of mineral blushes, especially ones easily available, you really can’t go wrong with Rose Shimmer and other colors from this line. At $3.99 and cheaper if you get them BOGO Free, these are the very best deal when it comes to mineral blush. Definitely check them out the next time you walk past the Wet N Wild section. It’s not for teens anymore.

Amazing Eyeshadow Combo & MAC Rose Romance Dupe
Primer: UDPP
Lid: Ben Nye Grande Lumiere Pressed Shadow in Iced Gold (White Gold)
Crease / Outer V: NYX Loose Pigment in Mocha Pearl (Taupe)
Contour (Over NYX): L’Oreal Wear Infinite in Golden Olive: (Golden Green)
Eyeliner: HiP Cream Liner in Brown
I truly wish I could take a picture of this – it is absolutely amazing, and I’m completely in love with this look. I think this will become my go to everyday green and gold look. It’s soft enough to wear during the day, especially using brown eyeliner instead of black. This makes my brown eyes shine, and even gives them a hint of green.
I used a peachy blush – Wet N Wild Mega Glo powder in Spotlight Peach and a lipglass from the new MAC Rose Romance Collection in Steal My Heart, which is being returned.
I am returning Steal My Heart, because it looks like a meduim bright pink in the bottle, and then when it is on the lips or swatched, it adds very little color to the lips. I also recently purchased some of Wet N Wild’s new Speed Glosses and the color Untamed is a more pigmented version of Steal My Heart. They look different in the bottles, but when they are on the skin and lips, Wet N Wild wins in the pigmentation arena. It’s also less sticky and thinner than the lipglass as well.
So skip Steal My Heart and grab Untamed instead. Infact Walgreens has Wet N Wild on sale right now, BOGO Free.
High End / Low End Comparables: Eyeshadows
This is somewhat of a continuation of my previous post on products that I’ve loved that I haven’t found a comparable lower priced item to. This post is all about the products that have a cult following, that actually HAVE lower end comparables, that I have personally used and loved. I haven’t used all of the higher end products, but I have tested them on several occasions that I feel I have a good idea of how well they work for me, anyway.
Eyeshadows – This is a biggie. I am torn on this one, because I’m in love with MAC’s Mineralized Eyeshadows, but I feel that there are many eyeshadows out there that are just as good, or even better than MAC and other Higher End shadows for a lower price:
- Ben Nye Eyeshadows – These range from about $6-10, and are available from costume shops, and speciality online stores. These are almost twice as big as MAC and Urban Decay shadows, and are pigmented like no one’s business. I use my Ben Nye shadows more than my more expensive ones.
- Wet N Wild Ultimate Expressions Palettes. These palettes have 8 huge colors, and are extremely pigmented. I own 6 of these palettes, both permanent and limited edition. The eyeshadows are soft and extremely blendable. These palettes have mostly neutral colors that are wonderful!
- NYX Shadows – NYX has many different types of shadows, and the vast majority of them are wonderful, they are pigmented, and dirt cheap. The price of these range from $1-6, depending on what you pick up. I’ve tried them all, and I have loved almost all of them.
- L’Oreal HiP Eyeshadows Duos – These are simply some of the best drugstore eyeshadows that you will easily find in the drugstore. Each duo has two cordinating colors that are simply amazing, and some can be considered as dupes to higher end colors. These often go on sale BOGO Free, so it’s well worth your time to pick some up. You can easily get four huge, pigmented colors for the same price as one MAC shadow during a BOGO Free sale.
- L’Oreal Wear Infinite Singles – I recently tried my first eyeshadow from L’Oreal – apart from the HiP line, and I was flabbergasted when I used it. It is extremely soft and pigmented, and it blended like dream on my skin. I am looking forward to trying more in the future. I haven’t tried the quads though. So those maybe different.
- Milani – Milani makes some amazing eyeshadows. The ones that are very comparable to MAC and other brands were their little regular singles. These were amazing smooth and more pigmented than you can imagine. Unfortunatley Milani decided to get rid of these, but they are still available in some places. I’ve seen them in select Walgreens. These cost around $3-4 and were totally worth the money. Another good choice from Milani are the quads, they for about $6-7 and have four huge colors with tons of pigment and are really soft. These are available everywhere.
- TKB Trading Pigments – These are pure pigments of color, that you buy from TKB Trading for $1.50 per sample. Samples are a full table spoon of pigment – this is about the same amount of product that you get in a full sized MAC jar filled. These are definitely worth your time to check out for cheap, but not cheap quality pigments.
So far, these are the shadows I’ve used that are comparable to higher end products. These may not be as smooth as higher end shadows, or they may be slightly more sheer, but the money that you save is worth it. I feel that the price difference and more than decent quality makes these shadows the better choice than the higher end ones.
In My Opinion: Best Drugstore Lipglosses
I hope to make this a new series in where I post lists of products that I think are the best. This one is all about lipglosses. You don’t have to agree with me, that’s one of the great things about having your own opinion!
Wet N Wild Speed Glosses ($3.99): I these are some of my newest acquisitions, but I already love them a lot. These come in a squeeze tube with a hard plastic applicator, that spreads the product easily. These are slightly sticky, and are very pigmented. There is a distinct minty taste in these glosses. They remind me of the B&BW C.O. Bigelow squeeze glosses.
Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss ($6.99): These have long been a favorite of beauty junkies around the world. They are non sticky, long lasting and come in a wonderful selection of colors. These glosses are pigmented, but can also be applied sheerly as well. I find that I can wear these alone or paired with a lipstick. There is barely any taste or scent to these glosses, so they are perfect for people who do not want or like taste or fragrance in their lipglosses.
Milani Crystal Gloss ($3.99): If I didn’t know any better, I would think that these glosses were MAC lipglasses in a different tube. Crystal Glosses have the same texture, scent and staying power as the lipglasses, only with a much, much smaller price tag. I only have one of these right now, but I absolutely adore it, and it has proven itself to be a wonderful, high quality gloss.
Milani Lip Mixers($6.99): Even though these are brand spankin’ new on the market, I already feel that these are some of the best glosses available. The idea behind these glosses, is that you mix the three different layers in the tube to get one shimmery, highshine color. I love these glosses, because they are heavily pigmented, and that they last for a good while on the lips. The scent is pleasant to me, it’s a grape-y scent that some people may like or dislike. The taste and scent goes away after a few minutes though, leaving a gorgeous gloss behind. I have four of these, and I love every single one of them. It’s a good thing that these are permanent.
NYX Mega Shine Lipgloss($4-5): For the longest time, these glosses were the only ones that I wore. The texture was smooth and non sticky, and they were long lasting compared to other non sticky glosses. They are also quite pigmented, only a few of them are sheer. The scent to me, is very pleasant, it reminds me of cherry lollipops. My HG nude gloss is in the shade Natural, which is the perfect brown / pinkish color. Even though I have these glosses listed under drugstore, NYX isn’t really found in many drugstore/ chain stores. They can be found online, and at random Beauty Supply stores. They are well worth the search.
Sally Hansen Lipnotic Gem Gloss ($6.99): Two words: DAZZLEGLASS DUPES! These glosses came out last year around the time MAC’s DazzleGlass lipglasses came out. I feel that these glosses by Sally Hansen are really good, cheaper alternatives of the expensive MAC ones. Both glosses are sheer, while being overloaded with shimmer and shine. Many people are split on these glosses, some like the Sally Hansen ones, while others do not feel that they are good alternatives. I personally love these, and they work well for both day time and night time.
Sally Hansen Natural Butter Lip Shine ($5.99): Last, but certainly not least, are these glosses. The texture is interesting, it reminds me of a jelly gloss, so it’s not quite as liquidy as other glosses. These apply sheerly, so they are not a pigmented as the Milani or NYX glosses. The glosses are down right tasty, they remind me strongly of fruit punch, so I feel like I have drunk some punch every time I apply this gloss. These are not long lasting at all, but I still think they are worth it just for the mirror like shine they babies give off!
You can find all these glosses at your local drugstore. Always be on the look out for sales!!
Wet N Wild / Prestige Haul
After my crappy week, I needed a little pick me up, and my local Walgreens had Wet N Wild BOGO Free this week, so I treated myself to some of Wet N Wild’s new offerings. Walgreens also had Prestige liners marked down down to a $1.29 a piece, so I indulged of some of those as well.
I plan on reviewing these products in the upcoming posts.
Wet N Wild:
Speed Gloss in Reckless, Frenzied and Crazed
Silk Finish Lipsticks in Dark Pink Frost, Sunset Peach
Mega Last Long Wear Lip Color in Endless
Ultimate Minerals Loose Blush in Barely Peach, Rose Shimmer
Prestige:
Eyeliner in Sage
Lipliner in Shimmer
Soft Blend Kohl Eyeliner in Jasmine, Chamomile
Lightshine Sheer Gloss Liners in Honey Suckle, Banyan, Hibiscus, Lily, Bonzai
All together my haul came in at $24 and change. I was very happy. Nothing like an awesome deal to make you feel so much better!
Collective Hauls: Coastal Scents, Walgreens…
Over the past couple of weeks, I have been celebrating the haul-a-days early.
I hit up a few drugstore sales, and took advantage of Cyber Monday sales. I love when brands such as Wet N Wild and Jane go BOGO Free, because it doesn’t happen as much with Revlon. Anyway here are my hauls from the past few weeks.
The first things I bought were a new foundation, because I am getting a little tired of my Aubrey Nicole foundation. I still love it, but I just wanted a change, something for the winter months. So when I saw that CVS was doing a promotion with Maybeline Power Mineral Liquid foundation, I decided to give it a whirl. I picked up color Nude – which is just about a perfect match for me. It’s as good as it’s going to get in drugstore foundations. I liked the foundie so much, that I ended up picking up a second bottle during the sale.
(Review of this foundie is coming soon)
Another haul that I picked up was from Walgreens. Since Walgreens and CVS are right next to each other, it makes it really easy to hit up both of these stores at the same time. For this week, Walgreens has Wet N Wild on sale for BOGO Free, and had a bunch of stuff that is being discontinued on clearance. One of the things I love about Walgreens is that when something is on clearance it also is still eligible for the BOGO Free sales. So I managed to score four of the twist up stick blushes that are being discontinued for about a $1 a piece. I also grabbed up two of the Loreal Colour Juice sheer lipsticks. I am not sure if these are being discontinued, but I snapped up two of them for $4.99. I love this things, they are quite pigmented and super glossy. I also love the taste and smell of these things. Very fruity.
I also got in my first haul from Coastal Scents today as well. I had heard some extremely good things about their new Gel Liners, and many beauty gurus on youtube had mentioned that they were basically good dupes for MAC Fluidlines, and were half the price of the Fluidlines. The Gel Liners are normally $6.95, and I picked up 6 of the ten colors that they are offering, I didn’t get their black, brown or light blue colors, because I already have all the HIP creme liners and I still have a ton of my creme liners left. So I focused on the other colors, getting the silver, gold and other colors that I didn’t have. I’ve played with some of the colors earlier today and they apply very much like the Fluidlines I already have. I plan on giving my new Gel Liners a better test tomorrow. I also picked up two eyeliner brushes from Coastal Scents as well, because someone recommended them to me to use with the liners. Since I didn’t have any decent slanted eyeliner brushes, I bit the bullet and grabbed them at $1.85 a piece. I like them a lot, and I plan on writing a review of them soon.
I also grabbed some new fragrance oils, because I LOVE burning oils. I love these as much as makeup. They are like crack to me! I knew that Coastal Scents sold fragrance oils and they were only $3 for 2 oz bottle, which is a total steal compared to Bath & Body Works, The Body Shop and Yankee Candle. I picked up two scents, White Plum and English Holly, and both are amazing. They filled my room with fragrance quickly and kept the scent going for several hours. I was very pleased.
Finally, I hit up the new store in my local mall, Fragrant Body Oilz, which I have mentioned previously on this blog. I purchased 6 bottles of 1 oz oils for $20, which is also a really good deal. I am trying these oils out, and I plan on writing more about them in the future. So far I am really pleased with my purchases and I plan on making more in the future. Other fragrance oils fanatics would love this company
Wet N Wild: Beauty Benefits
As some of you may know, Wet N Wild has a new more adult makeup line called “Beauty Benefits” and the website has finally been updated with new information about the line. This is a full line of cosmetics, which includes foundations, concealers, eyeshadows, lippies of all types and more.
This is what I consider to be Wet N Wild’s second foray into Mineral Makeup, since I can’t in good name consider their crappy excuse for mineral foundation as a true mineral foundation. From what I understand, this collection is priced a little higher than the normal WNW line, but it is still incredibly cheap for a drugstore line. Unfortunately for me, there are no places near where I live that carries this new line, so I have to go on what others say on Makeup Alley, and other beauty blogs.
Here is a description I found of the new line from Entrepreneur. Com:
A new collection of Lotus Marine Mineral infused color cosmetics to correct, protect and enhance natural beauty will be available next month. Wet N Wild Beauty Benefits contains lotus flower extract which offers anti-aging properties. Among the bevy of new products are Triple Fusion eyeshadow, Beauty Unblemished treatment concealer, Fresh Effects mineral foundation and Sheer Satin lip sheen with SPF 15.
This line is now found in select WalMarts and a couple of other retailers. You can visit Wet N Wild’s Beauty Benefits website at http://www.wnwbeautybenefits.com
Enjoy!
